Here’s a little bit more detailed information about me, my educational background, specialties, and story.
My name is Courtney Rice, and I am the owner and stylist behind Sunday Morning Hair. I practiced as an architect for over a decade before quitting my office job to pursue the freedom and creativity I found doing hair. I opened Sunday Morning as a tiny two-chair studio in Eagle Rock in 2012, and it has come to be one of the things I am most proud of in life ever since. The studio is now located in my LA-home neighborhood of El Sereno, just a few minutes from Highland Park and South Pasadena, and a short easy commute from downtown. It is designed to be an open and welcoming space for all, and it has a nice little drought tolerant garden in back, where you can relax in hammock chairs, or where I host pop up shops for local artist and maker friends every once in a while (follow @sundaymorninghair on instagram for announcements, and also to view my work and inspirations).
I am an unabashed lover of shaggy mullets, fashion bowl cuts, frenchie bobs, and all things 70s. My specialty is what I like to call “undone” hair…meaning cuts designed to air dry beautifully with the hair’s natural texture, and color that has a lived-in natural look. With cuts, I tend to work intuitively, valuing visual balance and suitability over precision. I typically cut hair dry with a scissor, or wet with a razor, or a combo of both depending on what’s appropriate for your hair type, texture, and desired end result. With color and styling, I am passionately dedicated to low-tox, synthetic-fragrance free and cruelty-free beauty, so I use only organic ammonia-free color lines (Oway and Original Mineral), and natural, completely nontoxic, styling products.
My educational background includes training from such talented mentors as Ramirez Tran, Tracey Cunningham, Pony Salon, Nick Arrojo, Prive, Sassoon, Toni and Guy, and American Crew Education to name a few. I continue to pursue continuing education with a passion, and plan to do so for the length of my career.
I look forward to meeting you. Looking good is feeling good, so let’s make the world a better place one haircut at a time.
